At Democracy Day church service, Jonathan, ministers, decline to say “amen” to prayer against corruption

President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, ministers and top government officials on Sunday failed to demonstrate a public commitment to the fight against corruption.

The president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, a...

At the interdenominational church service held at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to commemorate the 2012 National Democracy Day, the guest preacher and immediate past Prelate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Peter Akinola, in his sermon, challenged the congregation to join him in the fight against corruption in the country by committing perpetrators to God.

But the congregation, including the President, who was accompanied by his wife, Patience, the Governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson and Kaduna, Patrick Yakowa, Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, Dameshi Luka, as well as some ministers failed to respond to prayers to take corrupt officials “to the court of God.”

Apparently, expecting to hear a thunderous YES from the congregation, the Reverend, who instead got a deafening silence, exclaimed: “There you go! Oh, corruption! So, you are not ready to fight it, because you are all beneficiaries of it. Whether you steal in a small or big way, stealing is stealing.”

Apparently disappointed with the response he got, the clergyman shot angrily at Mr. Jonathan and his delegation, “See, it is very clear. You are not interested in fighting corruption. If you do, let us take our case to the court of God, if you dare. Who is deceiving who? You are only deceiving yourselves, not God. And you who is stealing government funds, subjecting the poor to untold hardship; you who steal oil subsidy money, making Nigerians pay for fuel through their noses; you who steal funds meant for improving our power supply, deliberately making Nigerians live a life in utter darkness, will you repent today? I doubt it!”

Before throwing the challenge at the president and other officials at the Service, Mr. Akinola had delivered a homily on the destructive impact of corruption on Nigeria.

“This hydra headed monster (of corruption) has literarily taken over the soul and eaten up the fabric of Nigeria,” Reverend Akinola said. “Officials steal our public funds openly by the pen, while others steal by the power of the gun. Successive governments have declared half-hearted war against corruption to no avail. We know only too well that the fight against corruption is largely selective directed at those opposing the government, with no strong political connection.

“Many of those fighting it (corruption) in police and Judiciary have no clean hands. When any National Assembly Committee or any government agency is inviting anybody for questioning it is because those being investigated have not yet given the agency inviting it their due share of the booty.

“Worse still, those who have cleverly made away with public funds and are living above their legitimate incomes are those who are being honoured by traditional rulers, who make them chiefs and high chiefs. Recently, our universities have joined the queue by inviting those people and giving them some baseless honorary doctorate degrees.Sadly, therefore, corruption will continue in full gear, because Nigerians and the government only pay lip service to its eradication. But, I believed as a Christian, as a preacher, as one who reads the Bible, there a way out.”

He continued, “Corruption in a narrow sense is another name for stealing. Stealing is a sin God commands us all not to commit. As you know every soul that sins and fails to repent shall die in his sin and end up in hell. So, let us resolve here today to take to the court of God, beginning from this place, all those thieves, who have failed to repent. Will you join me?

“You who steal the money for road construction, leaving our roads in a state of disrepair, causing several accidents and untimely deaths of thousands of our people, their blood is crying to the creator. You who steal the money earmarked for healthcare delivery, thereby running down and turning our hospitals into mortuaries; you who have destroyed our educational system, because the money meant for schools never got to them; you who make laws to inflate costs included in the budget, are you listening to me?

“All of you, whoever you are, greedy, arrogant politicians and officials who are in government only for what you can steal from it and virtually nothing to contribute to national development and has turned Nigeria into a wretch, repent today, and make reparations and God will have mercy on you. Don’t say Amen, only if you repent.

“It is true that ICPC, EFCC, the Police, judiciary may not catch you stealing. But believe me, the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-wise and the almighty God sees you very clearly. But, He is patiently waiting for you to return to the path of sanity and righteousness.”

In his speech, President Jonathan did not react to the issues raised by the preacher, who also proffered a proposal for a new Nigeria.

The president, who identified terrorism as a major challenge the country is currently facing, said with the prayers of Nigerians and commitment of government, “we will overcome”.

“We are working very hard to reposition our security architecture to cope with the modern challenge of terror. We will overcome,” he said. “Even though some people are predicting the disintegration of Nigeria, let me assure Nigerians that Nigeria will never disintegrate. Our forefathers worked hard to bring us together as a nation. Because of the country’s potentials and resources, no one individual or group can create problems that can disintegrate this country.”

GREAT OGBORU: His take on the State of Delta and the Nation

The alleged winner of 2011 governorship candidate in Delta State, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru has confirmed Urhobo Times earlier reports that he may join the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) contrary to denial by some members of the Democratic Peoples Party(DPP) His words, “True, we were talking with the ACN. The plan we had was to move into the ACN as a party after the election. Before then, we just had an election in which our party made giant strides. Within three months, it was not politically wise to drop a party that has become a household name in the state and start to build another brand. So we said ‘no’. In Delta State, there are only about five or 10 people who are AC N and I admit they are good people. Unfortunately, the followership is not there, they are with us. We were once in AD, so when we left, our followers left with us. So when we go back, we will be going back to our natural habitat. It is work in progress”.

Chief Ogboru who spoke in an interview with a news magazine said further, “Today, we have two political parties in Delta state. PDP and the DPP. There are two standing leaders in Delta state. One is far away in London. I am the only one in Nigeria today. Ibori is the
leader of the PDP in Delta State and I am the leader of the opposition there. Any other actor is a fringe actor and really hasn’t got a political space.”
On PDP, he said, “The PDP in Delta State is a very dangerous specie, extremely dangerous. They have so much money, so much power and so much influence. They would bribe a corpse. As somebody said: If they saw God today, they would bribe him; so, we are dealing with a very dangerous specie. They have done everything possible, and we all know this, to undermine the judiciary in this country. Ninety percent of the problem with the judiciary in Nigeria today is coming from Delta State PDP. They are exporting vices that are destructive to the unity and cohesion of our country. We have to be very careful. They are not people you can dine with, or you do so at your own peril”.

However, Chief Great Ogboru also did not rule out the possibility of joining the PDP in response to another question on the unpredictable nature of politicians. His words, “In politics nothing is impossible. But in this case, I think, it is extremely unlikely, but not impossible. In the last general elections, when we had to endorse President Goodluck Jonathan, I told my supporters that the President has not even sent somebody to talk to me, so how do you want me to endorse somebody who has not talked to me? But they replied “No you must do it, forgive him, he has not talked to us. The issue brought some kind of heated argument. Chief Edwin Clark was even lambasting me for taking that kind of view. I just could not bear all these old men and young ones railing against me, some crying. Not that I wouldn’t have endorsed Goodluck Jonathan, but just thought it was discourteous of him not to talk with us. So, the kind of people who you have around you as a politician can influence your decisions”.

On the achievement of Delta State in the last 12 years, Chief Ogboru said. “Assess the achievement in terms of how much Ibori alone stole. Over there, they put it at $400 million. That is N67 billion. And as the prosecutor said, that is even the tip of the iceberg. Consider the statistics from the Ministry of Finance on how much federal allocation has gone to Delta State in 12 years and you will be horrified by the degree of theft compared to the backward state of Delta “The amount of money that Bretton Woods raised to industrialize entire Europe after the second world war was $2 billion; it cannot be compared to the money that a little Delta State has spent since 1999. But go and look at the place and see what you find there. It’s still an eyesore. Most of the towns in Delta state remain shanties. There isno one that is a modern town. The opportunities for development and growth have been wasted.”

On Buhari recent statement on rigging of election in Delta state Chief Ogboru said. “The PDP people are taking it out of context. What Buhari was saying in essence is that, ‘look, you have created a condition which could lead to anarchy and when that anarchy comes, it would consume everybody. That is what Buhari is saying. He is not blood thirsty man. And, in truth, we are creating condition for anarchy and we should live up to that fact. We should face it.” He said further, “What I told you about Delta state and the votes of the people being undermined by the riverine communities is something that could lead to ethnic cleansing. If I was blood thirsty, if I was one of those people who would want to arm youths, all we needed was to buy 200 rifles and give the youths and Delta state would become ungovernable. And, of course, we can drive the PDP out of Delta state within 24 hours; they will run away because 90 percent of the people of Delta are not in the PDP. They do not like the government. But I kept begging the Delta people not to go violent. If I tell the youths, ‘Go and do whatever you want to do, I maintain Uduaghan and his thugs will never come to that state again. I’m not boasting. It’s a statement of fact. In 2007. The PDP chiefs in Delta State slept outside of the state for two weeks”.

Temitope Adeolu-Akinyemi: Sex…..what’s the big deal II?

Last month, i published the first part of this article here .

The first part of this article i wrote held a major assumption; that the husband has a stronger sex drive that the wife, this is because that’s what obtains in most cases. In this article, i’ll still ride on that assumption but will address the issue of sex from the woman’s perspective.Women are emotional. They do things most times not only because it makes sense to do it, but they feel good doing it.

It starts with her beauty in my eyes, it moves...

The above comment confirms why the statement, ‘i don’t enjoy sex’ will almost always come from women. For men, sex is more physiological, for women, sex is emotional, sensual and very engaging. That’s why they want to have it only when they’re mentally and emotionally ready. The average guy doesn’t need anything special to be ready; he’s good to go! This assumption from men which is devoid of understanding of the woman’s make up, is the reason why we have several sexually frustrated men in marriages.

Here are a few things men need to understand and do:

1) Don’t behave like an African man!

Many men in this side of the world believe that touching their wives in public, holding hands, flirting generally is a sign of weakness as a man; those little things increase your wife’s sensitivity to your touch as well. A lady once told me she had to warn her husband to stop jumping on her in the middle of the night, she must have been feeling used overtime she just had to blurt out. Women need to hear that they are loved and desired, apart from before or during sex; it’s reassuring.

2) Have Effective Foreplay!

A woman needs plenty of foreplay to be ready for sex (kissing, smooching, fingering, everything you wanna do). Most men just wanna “point and kill”. Be sure that as long as you’re not ready to take the time to prepare your wife for sex, you’ll either have her being extremely passive or constantly giving excuses. Also, you need to find out what turns your wife on, what makes her ready for sex quickest, that takes asking and some patience. Many men don’t even know that at an advanced stage in foreplay, your wife craves for you to penetrate. That is effective foreplay!

3) Celebrate your wife; women are super at multitasking!

Many men just whine like babies saying they’re not sexually satisfied while they’ve never really appreciated their wives for the variety of roles they play; women ensure there is no need in the house, so they always have to think ahead, the working woman is even worse – pressures at work, motherhood, in laws and outlaws, the husband’s welfare, the list is endless….Most men justify the fact that they go out and bring in the money. Today, things are different. Women work as hard, and even harder; then have to come home and ensure everybody is taken care of. The average woman’s schedule is mentally and emotionally draining, what she needs to give good sex is an understanding and cooperative husband who helps her through what she has to do. By the way, helping is not by yelling “welldone” from your laptop or TV to her in the kitchen, be involved. If you’re not willing to help your wife with house chores by working with her, then you must be willing to pay for domestic staff who will make her life easier. You can’t say you don’t want a househelp, or you can’t pay for such, and complain that your wife is always tired or having a headache; and by the way, those headaches are real! lol. You should be able to decide once in a while as a couple that you want to retire early on some nights and let the domestic staff take care of things. There’s no medal for doing all the work as a woman. You’ll only age faster than hubby and that’s trouble for the future!

4) Don’t sleep off!

I mentioned earlier that women are emotional. They are also very social and relational. That’s why a woman will feel used if, the moment sex is over, you start snoring. I once spoke with a friend, a guy, who was shocked that there was anything wrong with it. I guess many people are. Take some time to chit chat with your wife after sex before you sleep off; that way, she’ll feel you have a real relationship.

5) Minimize the quickies.

Some men complain that their wives say sex is very painful. Is it supposed to be painful after several years of marriage? If she still maintains that it is, then you need to check what is not being done right. Ensure that your wife is sufficiently wet before you penetrate. Don’t have sex when you’re pressed for time. She will always experience pain that way. On the other hand, when you both are in the mood, quickies can be exciting; however, very important, be sensitive.

6)  Get creative.

Don’t forget that you got your wife interested in you in the first place by “toasting” her and you won her over. Now is not the time to say she’s not cooperating; find out where she tickles sexually, get creative; take charge with absolutely no force. To enjoy good sex, get your creative juices flowing! Many men don’t care so much what position it happens as long as they have sex. But women can get bored and want to enjoy the experience. Hence, the need to get creative about various styles and positions to have sex. That way, there’ll always be an opportunity to try something new anytime you want to.

Shortly before we got married, I got a few books from my parents in law (they were the first people to teach me about sex in a very down to earth way; i had a few very eye opening sessions with them). I was impressed and surprised about how much they knew. Those books i was given, i have lent out to some newly weds and they have been really helpful; they contain graphic pictures of a couple involved in different positions of sex, also shows foreplay options. If you need copies of some of these books and more on sex and marriage, send me an email on topsiesuzie@gmail.com.

Have an amazingly sexy week!

CRY OF A LADY: “I am ripe for marriage” WHAT DO YOU THINK?

By Chukkie45

I came across a picture yesterday depicting a fruit on a tree with the caption “I am ripe for marriage” and it just got me thinking & I decided for once to put my thoughts to paper…*smiles*

This is actually for the ladies that are “RIPE” for marriage…

Ripe sudachi fruits

Ripe sudachi fruits (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Firstly when a fruit on a tree is ripe, it just sits there doing its thing which is being a ‘ripe’ fruit & people get attracted to it. The point being ladies, when you get to that phase in your life, please don’t become desperate, just keep being you & the “ripe” guy for you will locate you.

Now there’s different types of people that can be attracted to the “ripe” fruit.

Firstly you have the ones that would pick up a stone or any other object of choice & start throwing at the fruit hoping they will hit it maybe because they have a good aim or just hopeful persistence will pay off. The fruit can also get bruises & scars in the process but that’s the least of their concern. As far as they get the fruit, they are good. Most times they get it but by the time they get it, they don’t really value it because its been bruised(forgetting they bruised it) & in no time, they drop it & look for another fruit to “pluck”.
There’s also another bunch who use sticks or any other long object to prod till the fruit falls. The risk here is also the same as the first in that bruising may & will most likely occur & the fruit gets same treatment as the one in the first instance.

Now there’s another set that would come & just ‘wait’ hoping that time, chance & the forces of nature would somehow just cause the fruit to fall into their arms. One word ” LAZY”. These are also no good. They usually do not value the fruit when it comes because they didn’t “work” for it.

Now this next set gets to the tree, beholds the very beautiful fruit & then begin to make their way up the tree. Now this sounds like a serious group that mean business. But then when they get to a “seemingly” comfortable height, they wait there & do one of the following: they bring out the pebbles they have stuffed in their bag & start throwing at the fruits(group 1), or they reach for the stick that has been strapped to their side & start prodding(oh my God! Group 2) or they reach for the branch holding the fruit & start shaking it furiously hoping the fruit would “fall”(Group 3 only this time they are being the force). This bunch, well, yes they did “work” by climbing but its just sad because they are not finishers. By the time they get down to pick the “fallen” fruit, its usually damaged & they don’t have any use for it anymore(of course forgetting that they caused the fall that resulted in the damage).

And now here comes the last but not the least set… Here comes the “different” bunch… The ones that stand out. This set gets to the tree, see the fruit, get attracted to it, determine that they want it, count the costs & then set out to go get the fruit. They make the journey up the tree through the thin branches & all, taking all the risks to get to the fruit & when they get to it, they don’t just pluck it, they observe it to make sure it’s fully ripe, ensure it is actually what they want & then they pluck it & keep it safe & secure in the bag strapped over their shoulders. Then they get down, go home & enjoy the “full” value of the fruit.

Now ladies, put yourself in the position of the “ripe” fruit & let the different set of “pluckers”(permit my grammar) be the men that come to ask for your hand in marriage. Which set would you prefer?

Ladies please know your value. You are beautiful, made in the image of God & you are jewels of inestimable value. Please see through the masks and don’t settle for just anything.

Just keep being you and he that the Lord has made that will be willing to do the “work” will definitely come.

Shalom…

You had better start laughing before you read this…

Father: Why did you fail your Mathematics Test?
Son: On Monday, teacher said 3 + 5 = 8
Father: So?
Son: On Tuesday, she said 4 + 4 = 8. On Wednesday, she said 6 + 2 = 8.
If she can’t make up her mind, how do I know the right answer?

Girl: Do you love me?
Boy: Yes Dear.
Girl: Would you die for me?
Boy: No, mine is undying love

Man: How old is your father?
Boy: 1 year older then me
Man: How can that be?
Boy: He became a father only when I was born

Teacher: Where were you born?
Student: Singapore, Sir.
Teacher: Which part?
Student: All of me, Sir.

Teacher: How come you do not comb your hair?
Akin: No comb, Sir.
Teacher: Use your dad’s then.
Akin: No hair, Sir.

A boy came home from school with his exam results.
“What did you get?” asked his father.
“My marks are under water,” said the boy.
“What do you mean ‘under water’?”
” They are all below ‘C’ (sea) level!”

Teacher: Ted, if your father has $10 and you ask him for $6, how much would your father still have?
Ted: $10.
Teacher: You don’t know Maths.
Ted: You don’t know my father! He will not give me anything.
